White/Yellow Belt Level
This is an introduction to martial arts training. The student learns
basic blocking, punching, and kicking techniques. Students begin
to learn hand and foot combinations and how to perform Kata, a pre-arranged
fighting sequence. In addition, the children learn how to handle
stress and improve focusing skills. Yellow belt training also includes
sparring with equipment and simple board breaking techniques.
Orange/Purple Belt Level
The emphasis is on developing concentration skills. The movements
are more detailed, requiring better memory. Kata, a pre-arranged
fighting sequence, is more advanced at this level. There is more
contact through “shoot fighting,” a hybrid of sparring and grappling.
Blue/Brown/Black Belt
Level
These are advanced belts, heading to black belt. Emphasis is on
mastering detailed sequences called “Katas” and memorizing self-defense
techniques for rapid response. At this point the student feels comfortable
with all aspects of karate and is practicing to master their martial
art.
Jiu-Jitsu Class
New choice (for orange belts and higher) offers specialized training
for your little dragons. These classes can be taken as supplements
to your regular weekly class. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you’ll earn
an additional belt in the art of throws and groundfighting. There
are no katas or kickboxing in this class. Check the schedule cards
for times and locations.
Black Belt Club
Our Black Belt Club is designed to supplement the student’s karate
class and fast track club members to their black belt. This class
will have black belt instructors working on katas, weapons, techniques,
and forms necessary for junior black belts. Students must be enrolled
in a regular karate class at Nan’s in order to be enrolled in the
black belt club. Tuition is $33.00 per month in addition to your
regular class’ tuition.
